Extending the WOT german tech tree – Porsche Tank Destroyers

Disclaimer: 
This is a purely speculative article that takes into account WOT german tech tree and uses historical tanks to speculate possible new tank additions.
While trying to keep the articles faithful to history some room for inaccuracy is allowed within these rules:

1) No tank or tank part will be 100% made up, at least a mention about tank role and vague specs are needed

2) Components not planned for the tank are allowed, provided it wouldn’t create grotesque inaccuracies like putting a gun that would obviously cripple a tank under its weight

3) This will be limited to WWII plans, anything post war risks to be too arbitrary to properly balance

As you probably noticed, new ASAP (KTTC in Russian) video is out.  Nothing new or surprising in it, just a recap of the things known from 8.5 patchnotes. But at least it’s confirmed the Chinese will get a new tier 8 premium vehicle to replace the Type 59.

Anyway, the translation:
– when regular AP shells penetrate the hull, they travel the distance of several (10?) shell calibers (SS: eg. 100mm shells = 1m distance). The same rule applies for HEAT shells.

– when in contact with spaced armor or external modules, the same rules apply for HEAT shells as for AP shells

World of Tanks History Section: E-50

The E-series (Entwicklung-typen) program started in 1942, as a project to discover new solutions in the field of tank building. The head of the program was Heinrich Kniepkamp, a competent commander, and talented engineer. By the end of the war, he held 50 patents relating to tracked vehicles. It is worth mentioning that not a single company involved with the project has ever built tanks before. The German high command predicted that this will result in the most original approach to the problems at hand. Even though not a single E-series tank was mass produced, and most only got as far as blueprints and wooden mockups, one could say that this was a successful project. The E-series are considered the peak of German technological thought.

Second Public Test of Update 8.5

New features of the second test of the version 8.5

Important! Please note that tank characteristic changes haven’t been listed in this update. The full list of these changes will be revealed in the final patch notes prior to the release.

  • Fixed some building and object collision models.
  • Fixed some errors on the visual models of the following tanks: IS-4, Leopard Prototype A, Excelsior.
  • Added to the “Hunter” achievement criteria the following tanks: Leopard 1, Leopard Prototype A and Aufkl.Panther.
  • Fixed an error in which a player couldn’t buy premium consumables for credits if they didn’t have gold on their account.
  • Fixed errors in the new visualisation system for the “Expert” achievement.
  • Fixed an error in the black marks marking hits on maps on some configurations.
  • Changed the name of the second turret of the T-70 tank
  • Made some changes to the collision models of the T-70 and T-80 tanks.
  • Fixed appearance of emblems on some tanks.
  • Fixed research tree for the VK 30.01 (D)
  • Fixed errors for the South Coast, Sand River and Pearl River maps

– when smoke (as cover) is introduced, the cover mechanism of various objects (haystacks, walls etc.) won’t be changed (they won’t be added as camoproviding objects), there are too many of them

– various tanks have various tracks hitbox models, these models do not depend on the type of the suspension (torsion bars, Christie etc.), rather than on its shape

We probably had a great discussion on the forum after i posted “Digging Deeper (1) – Shell Normalization“. But there was also a lot of confusion. I came to the conclusion, that there are a lot of missleading sources on the web, mostly written by people who are simple not deep enough in the theme of armor penetration.
