The Kirovets-1 project (IS-3 Model 01) was developed between July and November 1944. The prototype was built by ChKZ (Chelyabinsk) in September-October 1944. Between the 18th and the 24th of December 1944 the tank was tested on NIBT proving grounds in Kubinka. In connection with the decision to build an improved series of modernized IS-2 with the hull proposed by the No.100 plant and CNII-48 was the project stopped.
